Description
What this service covers
Some core systems are here to stay: platforms in banking, insurance and government still depend on SOAP, fixed-width records and dated formats. We place a gateway in front of them that converts protocols, renames cryptic fields and adds caching and circuit breakers, so a slow backend does not take your website down with it. Up to 25 operations are exposed and documented in a machine-readable spec, with sensitive fields masked in logs and backend error codes turned into clear messages. We load test at your expected traffic. When the old system is finally retired, only the gateway needs updating.
What you receive
- A gateway converting REST requests into calls on SOAP, XML and fixed-width backends
- Up to 25 operations exposed, each documented in a machine-readable spec
- Caching with freshness set individually for each operation
- Circuit breakers and timeouts that isolate backend slowdowns
- Request and response logging with sensitive fields masked
- Cryptic backend codes converted into clear, actionable messages
- Load test results at your expected traffic volume
The work in 4 stages
-
01
Stage 1: Study
The old interface is written up, quirks and hidden behaviour included.
-
02
Stage 2: Map
REST resources are matched to backend calls and error cases listed.
-
03
Stage 3: Construct
The gateway is built with caching, retries and monitoring.
-
04
Stage 4: Verify
Load tests and a parallel run happen before your apps move across.
Who it suits, and what we need from you
Ideal for
- Organisations building a modern front end on a system they must keep
- Teams writing the same integration code for every new project
- Products whose customers feel the delay of an ageing backend
What we need from you
- Access to the legacy system, or to a test copy that behaves like it
- Any surviving documentation, however old
- Someone familiar with its oddities, even if they now work elsewhere
You share these through the brief on your order page after checkout.
What changes for your team
- You pay for the integration once, not on each new project
- A slow or failing backend degrades gracefully rather than bringing everything down
- A tidy boundary ready for when the old system is retired
Questions about this service
We have no documentation whatsoever. Is that a blocker?
Does the gateway add delay?
Can it run in our own data centre?
This is a remote service: nothing is shipped physically, and the work is delivered into systems you control. See delivery and handover and refunds and cancellation for the full terms.
